Power converters for transport applications such as rail and materials handling must be proof against what is often a hostile operating environment. RECOM and its subsidiary Power Control Systems as specialist for customised solutions, a range of reliable and rugged AC/DC power supplies for battery charging/conditioning and general use, along with DC/DC converters with low and high-voltage traction battery inputs. The following designs are intentionally developed as platform solutions, which enable RECOM to modify fast, easily and cost efficient these solutions to different customer needs.

AC/DC Converters for Transportation Applications
Parts MA2000 and MA11000 are high-specification battery chargers/conditioners with outputs rated at 2kW/3-120VDC and 11kW/4-300VDC respectively. The products can be programmed to charge and discharge batteries for test and conditioning for optimum battery service life-time and availability.
Part SD2800 is a non-isolated converter which accepts low voltage, three-phase AC input at nominal 24VAC or 44VAC providing 14V or 28V output respectively at 2.8kW.

The SD1200 series is a 1.2kW DC/DC converter, available from RECOM, with flexible input/output voltage levels. With railway application approvals, the product has five DC input ranges available covering 16.8V to 170V and three DC output variants at nominal 24V, 48V or 110V.
The SD2800 series is also available, a non-isolated 2.8kW DC/DC converter with a selection of nominal input/output combinations. The product can also optionally be powered from three-phase low voltage AC.
In industry, fork-lift trucks and other materials handling equipment often use traction batteries rated from 320V to 600V. The SD4000 series of on-board power supplies generates optionally 24V or 48V from the high voltage battery and is rated at 4kW with high efficiency. The 19“ rack product can be baseplate- or liquid-cooled.
